Method

The national opinion research center (NORC) was founded in 1941 which has been leading in the field of social investigation for 70 years. At present a lot of social science research and industry standards, data collection and analysis tools produced in NORC. In this research, the participants consist of social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers. The research uses a random sample of 1092 workers across social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers, and among them, 937 were born in this country and 155 were not. There are an average of 273 from each classification, which comprise of 136 boys and 137 girls. That is to say, the selection of respondents account to the same proportion of 25% and the gender of them account to the nearly proportion of 50%. This research regards health condition as the independent variable, and presents employment, income, and nativity, as the independent variables, which are three determining factors influencing their health condition.

 The aim of this paper is to find the answer for the following question: In general, is a person’s health condition excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor? There are several questions in the survey paper as follows: Are you employed? What’s your labor force status in the real life? What’s your income for a year? Were you born in this country? How often are you sick for a year, never(excellent), one to two times(very good), three times(good), four to five times(fair), or more than six times(poor)? The basic data of the research is from the questionnaire of this paper. According to the answers of them, I use the methods like chi-square, ANOVA and regression to analyze the statistics. First, the table creates crosstab tables and conducts a Chi-square test, then interprets them. Second, the table process and analyze the valid questionnaire by applying SPSS. The table use software of SPSS 11.5 and GSS to analyze 200 available data by ANOVA, correlation and regression. The purpose of this investigation is to see that in general, a person’s health condition is excellent, very good, good, fair or poor, moreover, it also tends to explore the correlation between the condition of a person’s health condition and the three determining factors: employment, income, and nativity. 

Result

In this research, the sample of 1092 GSS workers is comprised of social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers. The research uses a random sample of 1092 workers across social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers, and among them, 937 were born in this country and 155 were not. There are an average of 273 from each classification, which comprise of 136 boys and 137 girls. That is to say, the selection of respondents account to the same proportion of 25%(n=273) and the gender of them account to the nearly proportion of 50%(n=273). The frequency is 1092 and the validity percent is 100%. This study presents health condition as the independent variable, and its three determining factors: employment, income, and nativity, as the independent variables. 

Hypothesis and the Analysis of Results: 

Hypothesis1: There is difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and employment. From the point of employment, those who work full time accounts to the proportion of 81.5% in excellent health condition, those who work full time accounts to the proportion of 15.9% in excellent health condition and those who temp not working accounts to the proportion of 2.6% in excellent health condition. And the Std. Deviation of this hypothesis is .467, which shows that the results of employment of the respondents have great concern with their health condition. So there is a difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and their employment. 

Hypothesis2: There is a difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and their income. From the perspective of workers’ income, those who has income of $1000 to 2999, $3000 to 3999 and $4000 to 4999 accounts to the same proportion of 1.6% in excellent health condition. And the Std. Deviation of this hypothesis is 2.612, which shows that the results of income of the respondents have little concern with their health condition. So the result shows that there is no difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and their income.   

  Hypothesis 3: There is a difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and their nativity. From the point of nativity, among the workers in sample, 85.8% were born in this country. 84.4% of them are excellent in health condition, 88.6% of them are very good in health condition, 85.3% of them are good in health condition, 80.5% of them are fair in health condition, 1.4% of them are very good in health condition. And the Std. Deviation of this hypothesis is .349, which shows that the results of nativity of the respondents have great concern with their health condition. So there is a difference between the health condition of GSS social workers, office workers, research workers and white-collar workers and their nativity.
