Dataset

I used to work as a student counselor in a college (College of Public Administration) of a Chinese University, serving and managing all the graduation and employment affairs of the postgraduate students. Therefore the implementation of my work heavily relies on the Oran Employment Information Management System. Students shall register and upload all their relevant information about employment into the system for the examination and verification of the college counselors and authority organization of the university, which will be the source of the database. The database is comprised of two interfaces, which are personal information checking of graduates (interface A) and employment and development choices of graduates after graduation (interface B) .  

Interface A include columns such as student number, name, ID card number, gender, academic accreditation, major, whether the poor student, hometown provinces, intention employment positions, intention employment industries, intention salary, email and other contact ways. Interface B include columns such as the employment classification (starting own businesses self-employed, further study to obtain higher degrees, going abroad, entering into domestic organizations), employment organizations classification, employment salary, employment industries, employment regions, intention salary, the registration certificate issued, the future address of keeping the registration account and profile, contacts and contact ways of the organization and etc,. 

The function of the system include Browse Sort, single significant window to find a single student code, field edit, Option Function, Print function, Export functions,  Find feature, Batch function, Import function, Statistical functions, Audit function,  Check the right function, and Rule Function. And finally, the number of the postgraduate students of the college is 511, so the corresponding data size of the college of the university is 511 as well.

Within the Oran Employment Information Management System Interface A and Interface B together constitute a beneficial system both convenient for students, teachers, the college and the university in dealing with the graduation matters and employment data statistics. Through the use of this database, the college and the university are able to, for example, complete the ratio analysis of different employment classifications, different employment organizations classifications, different employment industries, and different employment regions of the college postgraduate students, get good command of the relationship between intention salary and employment salary, and as far as make further statistics researches to summarize the whole employment conditions of postgraduate students and to indicate and predict the future education direction for the college’s postgraduate students.

Diagnosis

In terms of the ratio analysis of different employment regions of the college postgraduate students, the appendix diagram shows that the students choose to work in the regions of Southern China and eastern China rank first and second, accounting respectively for 42.4% and 30.6% while the fewest students choose to go for northwestern China (Appendix C).

In terms of the relationship between intention salary and employment salary, as Appendix D shows, there is a relationship between employment month salary and intention month salary. Data shows the regularly distributed points, not randomly dispersed. A diagonal line can be drew and the diagonal line inclines from the bottom left to the upper right, indicating the employment month salary will grow as the intention month salary increases, a linear relationship may be established, which shall be tested. Later procedures are to remove the qutliers and to fit the binary regression model to determine the most appropriate regression model.

Appendix A: dataset transformed into JMP format

Because the exported dataset (excel format) is also a Chinese version, so the fields and the corresponding data from the original dataset will all be translated into English and typed by the author in the JMP software，as shown by Appendix A. And the selected fields will be less (related merely with the basic diagnosis of data questions) while a large sum of fields will not be presented within the dataset in JMP format (Appendix A).
